Note that it's much shorter to leave the White River trail after about 9 miles, then bushwhack north up the Lightning Creek drainage to reach the Honeycomb Glacier via a 7100 ft gap, then ascend west to cross onto the Suiattle Glacier at 7800 ft and descend north past Glacier Gap. Three difficult creek crossings with washed out bridges in the first 9 miles. White River Trail #1507: Trailhead at 2300 ft, 51 miles roundtrip to the summit via White Pass, with about 10500 ft total gain. Also, a newly built (but unfinished) trail reroute to the north of Meander Meadow saves about 1.5 (?) miles in each direction, so closer to 42 miles roundtrip. Apparently, there are no difficult creek crossings or washed out bridges. Little Wenatchee River Trail #1525: Trailhead at 3000 ft, 45 miles roundtrip to the summit via White Pass, with about 11000 ft total gain. Difficult creek crossing at Red Creek, washed out bridge.ĭue to road washout at MP 0.8 on FR 49 at 1500 ft, add 12 miles and about 600 ft of gain, for a grand total of 47 miles and over 11000 ft of gain. North Fork Sauk Trail #649: Trailhead at 2100 ft, 35 miles roundtrip to the summit via White Pass, with about 10500 ft total gain. The three main approaches to White Pass are the North Fork Sauk, Little Wenatchee River, and White River trails. This saves about 5 miles (each way) and much elevation gain/loss versus going through Red Pass and Glacier Peak Meadows. From White Pass, the shortest way to reach the South Ridge is to follow a climbers' trail traversing NE past White Mtn, then cut through any of several gaps in the ridge west of Pt 6770 (or wrap around Pt 6770 and cross a gap north of it) to reach the deglaciated basin at the toe of the White Chuck Glacier, then continue on north and east to reach 7100 ft Glacier Gap. Given the current state of unrepaired road and trail washouts dating from 2003, 2006, and 2007, as of summer 2008 the shortest route to the summit of Glacier Peak remains the South Ridge (aka Gerdine Ridge), which is also the technically easiest route. I'd appreciate any corrections or expansions to the info below. I've been trying to sort out the best access to Glacier Peak ever since the huge floods of fall 2003 washed out both the White Chuck and the Suiattle road/trail systems, which had been the two main avenues of access.

It’s a simple, folksy cowboy ditty, accompanied by the sight of Tim Blake Nelson’s titular Buster Scruggs slowly ascending to Heaven, strumming a lyre. One of the most surprising moments in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was this little ditty, which kicks in about five minutes into The Coen Brothers’ anthology western. Still, obsolescence is an issue, which makes commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and the open-systems architectures attractive options for future upgrades. More to the point, however, the old technology works just fine in fact, it rarely if ever fails. Even if NASA engineers wanted to keep up with the latest and greatest in computer technology, the cost of qualifying and testing each new piece of hardware for space would be astronomical - and only a fraction of the cost of requalifying the software. Why the big generation gap? Well, the functions of a desktop computer currently require more processing power than flying a spacecraft into Earth's orbit and back. The latest high-speed Intel and AMD microprocessors are as many as five or six generations ahead of the computers that control the Space Shuttle. The upgrades signal that the world's most advanced spacecraft is finally starting to catch up with the technology on the average American's desktop computer. Once all four orbiters have completed the cockpit facelift in 2004, they will get new state-of-the-art computers to complement their new displays. Meanwhile, the International Space Station, still nearing completion, continues to rely on older custom-designed technology.Īfter nearly 20 years of flying with 1970s cockpit electronics, NASA's Space Shuttle orbiter is upgrading to a digital cockpit that reduces Shuttle crew workload and cuts down on human error. Some will still prefer to take an aggressive approach to combat but we recommend kiting your enemies whenever possible. Touch damage is back in Starbound and it’s a real pain in the ass. Make sure you bring climbing gear, preferably a large stack of rope and/or wood platforms, to ensure you can get back out of any hole you dig during your travels. You can purchase additional teleporters from a shop at the Outpost, near the NPC who builds/sells tech items.īring Platforms And Ropes When Digging MinesĮven if you’re not one of those players who prefers to dig straight down to the core, climbing back out of the mine you’ve excavated can prove to be more difficult than originally expected. Building additional teleporters isn’t cheap but the potential to create massive travel networks provides more than enough incentive. Once you’ve visited a teleporter, you can return to that same location from any other teleporter in the game. Use Teleporters To Establish Transportation Network Our advice is to keep a few ready and waiting, in storage near the teleporter on your ship, so you can grab one before each trip to a new location. Placing a flag on a planet sets that location as the primary warp destination when departing your ship. The flags you can build in Starbound aren’t just there for decorative purposes. Or pretty much anything that wasn’t already in storage. From what we can tell, players can safely take anything they find in a container, like treasure chests or refrigerators, but NPCs will get mad if you use your matter manipulator to take the container itself. Sure, it might be tempting to steal pretty much everything that isn’t nailed down, but doing so is going to destroy your reputation with the local populace. It’s important to know what you can (and can’t) get away with pilfering whenever you find a new village. We’re not sure the game ever actually communicates this, but players can harvest “background” tiles by holding the right mouse button (instead of left) while the Matter Manipulator is equipped. Just hold the shift button the next time you’re building and enjoy your newfound freedom to create. But not everyone realizes that Starbound lets you place single blocks of your chosen material in addition to the two-by-two squares placed by default. His frames were fine though, he really just needed new lenses. He came to us wanting to replace a whole pair of sunglasses that we couldn’t order. Why do we do this? It goes back to when we were founded on a customer request. We’re talking to all you indecisive shoppers out there, too. If you are unhappy with your lenses in any way, we will replace them for no charge within 60-days of your purchase. It is the material we use in all of our lenses.Īnd we’re not just saying that. These days, you’ll find injection molded Polycarbonate in most high end sunglasses and the majority of prescription eyeglasses in the US because of its higher index, lighter weight, and extreme (virtually bulletproof) shatter resistance. This change in process allowed us to not only offer an optical grade Polycarbonate, but also increase our scratch resistance and coating durability 3x. You might not notice a difference looking through the lens, but it’s worth it to us. Instead of starting as large sheets, the Polycarbonate material is melted down to a liquid and injected into a metal mold at high pressure to form the base shape of a lens. ![]() Over the years, we worked alongside some of the top lens material manufacturers on the development of an optical grade, injection molded Polycarbonate lens. Coatings that get added to the surface meant to protect the material are stretched out during this process, making the lenses easier to scratch and delaminate.Įven worse, while Bent Sheet Polycarbonate does have optics superior to TAC, neither material can be used in the production of prescription eyeglasses and, for that reason, aren’t considered to be “optical grade.” This process is not only its namesake but also its shortcoming. That’s pretty much a fancy way of saying factories have workarounds to make TAC into a lens that is optically barely passable.īent Sheet Polycarbonate is a rigid, durable material produced in large sheets, cut into rectangles, and then bent to a curve in a heated, hydraulic press. The problem is that the visual acuity of TAC is so bad that most manufacturers produce the lenses at only a 1.0mm center thickness to reduce the amount of inherent haze and aberrations in the material. It is a widely available, inexpensive material. Many “affordable” brands still use Triacetate lenses today. When Fuse was formed nearly 10 years ago, there were two primary lens materials available: Triacetate (TAC) or “Bent Sheet” Polycarbonate. What those brands don’t do is stand behind their products and their quality. If you just want replacement lenses, they work. There are tons of small lens companies that pop up, buy pre-cut lenses in bulk, and sell them to you for less. This process usually takes around 1-3 days - but it’s worth it. Then, our team cleans, inspects, and packages up your order. When you place an order with us, we custom cut each pair of lenses to order in Clearwater, FL on our state-of-the-art equipment (same as what you would find in big brand’s factories). Since we’re on the subject of price, did you know you can buy around 5 pairs of our replacement lenses for the same cost as an average pair of brand name sunglasses? ![]() We prefer to invest our dollars in people, processes, and equipment so that we can control our costs and pass the savings along to you. This allows us to offer the same quality lenses as the big guys with less of a price tag. We are just a small, independent company with about 30 employees right here in the USA. Unlike the big brands, we don’t have hefty expenses on research and development, HUGE advertising campaigns, and high-powered executives with lavish lifestyles. Our business is to help you extend the life of your sunglasses at a price that makes sense. They price their lenses so high that if you are on the fence about replacing or buying, you are more likely to say “shoot, if lenses cost that much, might as well just buy a new frame.” Sound familiar? If a brand does happen to offer some replacement lenses, you might notice that our lenses often cost less than half of what they charge. In fact, if you made it here, you are one of a small group to be in the know. It’s no wonder most people don’t know that this product exists. We probably don’t need to tell you that selling sunglasses is their priority and that selling replacement lenses to extend the life of the sunglasses they just sold to you ISN’T. They spend an unimaginable amount of money to advertise their newest products - and they do it all without mention of replacement lenses. They even invade your local fishing and surf shops. This company owns almost every sunglass brand you can think of and pits them against each other as if they are separate. Did you know that as of 2014, just one giant company owned 80% or more of all sunglasses sold in the United States? ![]() ![]() ![]() The above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
